All about Morral Play Services..

Alan Dymond has over 30 years experience working within play and the play industry in general, both for local authorities and the private sector.

He pursued an early career in play and play development, predominately based in London, with various boroughs, working on play schemes, adventure playgrounds and in youth services. The work included designing and constructing 2 adventure playgrounds from scratch.

He then project managed the Phase 2 Development of Heywood Adventure Playworld for Bolton MBC.

His final role for a local authority was for Manchester City Council as their Play Areas Development Officer. He initiated, what at the time was considered and still is, to be one of the most pro-active play area development programmes in the country. Changing the culture of design, maintenance, inspection, funding, partnership, tendering/contracting and consultation processes – the result was to transform the play area landscape across the City.

A 10 year programme resulted in the removal of all 170 play areas which the City Council owned across parks, housing estates and public open spaces and the development of 100 new facilities as the replacement.

He undertook all aspects of the play area development programme from initial consultation, designing of the sites, managing the tender processes for contracted work, contract management, risk assessment and inspection of the sites, managing all budgets and all internal/external contractors during this period for both the closures and development programme.

For the past 13 years he has been Morral Play Services.

The client base of Morral Play Services includes many local authorities, play equipment manufacturers, safer surfacing contractors, landscape architects, landscape contractors, housing associations, schools and the private sector, including McArthur Glenn, ITV, Outdoor Adventure Centres and Theme Parks.

As well as inspecting and risk assessing, his work includes design advice for architects and a number of play manufacturers, carrying out pre-design and pre-installation risk assessments.

Project/Contract Management has taken place for and on behalf of local authorities and housing associations.

Many of the Annual Inspections have included Access Audits, Play Value Audits, Risk Assessments and Risk Benefit Analysis and the Fields in Trust PAD Compliance.

The final element of his work is Post Installation inspections, which have been carried out for a number of local authorities, play equipment manufacturers, landscape architects/contractors and schools.
